There’s a lot of talk in America about minorities. But one minority, which I belong to, gets very little discussion in political and social forums. We face many disadvantages that the majority of Americans take for granted, and are often ridiculed for our differences, yet we go unnoticed day after day. My group is known as “left handers” or sometimes “backwards freaks,” which is less politically correct, slightly more offensive, and, to be honest, somewhat truthful. As you very well know, the term “Southpaw” itself refers to a left-handed person. I’m proud of my pencil-smearing heritage! With that in mind, Southpawcartoons.com has compiled a list of famous southpaws who shaped the face of humanity as we know it today. These visionaries are in no particular order of importance because we lefties do not discriminate - unlike you righties with your scissors, and desks, and… everything else…
Mahatma Gandhi Enabled scientists to correctly identify the number of ribs in the human body. Leonardo Da Vinci Left hidden messages in his paintings telling Dan Brown to make up ridiculous conspiracy theories about the Catholic Church. Henry Ford If this is true then why did he make the gear shift on the right hand side of the car? Great contribution to left-handers, traitor. Marie Curie She was radiant. Or was it radioactive? I don't know, one of the two. OJ Simpson Proved that if you're left handed you can get away with being caught red handed… once, at least. Michelangelo I’m not sure if this is the artist or Ninja Turtle. Either way he makes the list. Barry Bonds I'm not going to make fun of him. You’re the man Barry. Rocky Balboa Proved to the world that anyone who grows up an undersized, fictional boxer can beat a gigantic Russian and end the Cold War. Tom Cruise Every minority has the one public figure that disgraces the entire group. Ours is Cruise. John F. Kennedy Without him who else would Barack Obama be compared to besides Lincoln and FDR? Napoleon Showed us that small-man's complex can lead to a successful invasion of Russia. Oh wait, maybe he showed us that it can't. Ludwig van Beethoven Played the piano, or something. Jimi Hendrix He successfully dodged old age by valiantly dying of a drug overdose at 27. Keanu Reeves He gave us… ok he didn't give us anything - but he is famous, isn't he? Bill Clinton Served as US President and gave us all a little piece of himself. Actually, he gave a select few women ten million little pieces of himself on several occasions. Sarah Jessica Parker Sex and the City showed us that single, unattractive, know-it-all 40-year old women can be very popular. Fidel Castro He formed and led a Socialist Utop… I can’t even finish the sentence without laughing. Richard Simmons This one is too easy. Simon Bolivar Liberated Venezuela. The world is a better place because of that, right? Friedrich Nietzche Spread the uplifting message to millions of soul-searchers that nothing we do means anything. Then he went insane for some reason.
International Left-Handers Day is on August 13. Mark your calendars.
